Alumni Services/Privileges

The American University Library is pleased to provide lifetime borrowing privileges to AU Alumni as well as a host of other services.

Establishing Your Alumni Account

In order to open an alumni account, you must have completed a degree program at AU. Please bring a valid government issued photo ID to the Borrowing Desk, where you will be asked to sign a one page form detailing your new alumni privileges. When checking out books or requesting a temporary login, you will need to show a photo ID.

Alumni ID Cards

For your convenience, the Office of Housing & Dining does provide AU Alumni ID cards. These cards function like a student ID. They have a personalized barcode for checking out books and can be loaded with Eaglebuck$ for printing.

Borrowing Privileges

As an alumni, you can borrow up to 25 books at a time from the AU Library for 4 weeks. Books can be renewed 3 times using your My Library Account, by phone, or in person. Consortium borrowing is not available to alumni; however, books can be requested via interlibrary loan at a rate of $25.00 per item.

On-Site Services

Alumni may use Bender Library until closing, or until midnight when the library is operating 24 hours. You are welcome to use all library services on-site, including accessing online journals and databases as well as obtaining professional assistance from reference librarians and subject specialists. To use electronic resources and the Internet, you will need to show your Alumni ID or other valid photo ID at the Borrowing Desk for a daily use log-in. Other services, such as scanning and printing are also available on-site.

Off-Site Services

Due to licensing issues, the full list of electronic databases available to currently enrolled students is not accessible off-site to alumni. However, alums can remotely access these five databases: JSTOR, Academic Search Premier Alumni Edition (an electronic database specifically for alumni), Project Muse, GreenFile (indexing and abstracting resource covering aspects of human impact to the environment), Current Digest of the Post-Soviet Press, Sage Journals, Library Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA), and American Doctoral Dissertations: 1933-1955. Access to these databases is available through the Library Resources section of the Alumni Association Online Community.

My Library Account

Due to new security measures, alums will have to use this link to access their My Library Accounts:
